Post-Op Care

Surgery can be a difficult time for anyone. There is time out from work, plus the pain, fear and uncertainty associated with surgery. After surgery care is one of the biggest challenges of all, yet many people do not plan for it, they overlook the importance of post operative care at home. Post Operative Care might include restrictions like bed rest, no driving, no lifting, or not too much standing. After the surgery many patients worry “Who will care for me, while I heal?” “Will my pets, my plants, my bills be taken care of?” Worry, causes stress, stress delays healing. At home patients can cause additional harm to themselves by doing too much, too soon which can lead to readmittence to the hospital. The First 24-72 hours after surgery is critical, a patient needs to hydrate, rest and move around when possible. This time frame right after surgery is extremely important.
